Understanding the Measurements

Eye Height

Vertical opening at the center of the eye (0.5 UI). Represents voltage noise margin available for the receiver. Affected by: additive noise, ISI loss, amplitude compression.

Eye Width

Horizontal opening at the mid-crossing level. Represents timing margin for the CDR. Affected by: random jitter (RJ), deterministic jitter (DJ), ISI-induced data-dependent jitter.

Bathtub Curve

Shows BER vs. sampling point across the UI. The flat bottom of the "bathtub" is the safe sampling region. The curve helps determine optimal CDR phase and available timing margin at target BER.
